Honey and Apple Cider Vinegar – Get Rid of Dandruff
Both honey and apple cider vinegar are great natural ingredients that help us with a large variety of issues, and one of them is dandruff. We all know how unpleasant it can be, and how serious it can get if not handled correctly.
Malassezia is a type of fungus that causes dandruff. Even though it its harmless, it can become an opportunistic pathogen when the immune defenses are down.
Sadly, the dandruff shampoos that can be found in stores contain highly toxic ingredients, that are only going to be detrimental to the already suffering scalp. For example, coal tar has a level 10 hazard warning from the Environmental Working Group. Another common ingredient, recorcinol, has been proven to lead to thyroid problems.
Fortunately, nature is here to help us get rid of such problems.
Raw honey helps hair hold onto moisture while delivering a powerful infusion of vitamins A, C, D, E, B-complex, beta-carotene and other minerals including iron, magnesium, potassium, manganese, calcium, and phosphorous. It has long been recommended to prevent thinning hair, as dandruff can plug the follicles and prevent new hair from growing.
To use it, apply diluted raw honey (90% honey and 10% water) on wet hair. Massage into scalp for 3 minutes and let it sit for three hours. Rinse with warm water. If you want to, you can follow with ¼ cup vinegar and ¾ cup water in order to seal the hair cuticle and make hair shiny.
Repeat this procedure every other day for two weeks.
Another great natural ingredient for getting rid of dandruff is apple cider vinegar. Its acidity changes the pH of the scalp, making it an unfit environment for yeast to grow. Moreover, it contains natural probiotics that help fight bacteria and fungi.
To use it, mix equal parts apple cider vinegar and water together. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle of your choice and apply to freshly washes scalp and hair. Make sure that it does not get into your eyes. Put on a shower cap and let it sit for 15 minutes to 2 hours, then rinse with warm water. Repeat twice per week until dandruff is gone.
With these two natural ingredients, you can make sure that dandruff remains an issue of the past. Try them both and see which one works best for you!
